Teenagers - my Chemical Romance Research

Music Video Link has had the impeding code withheld for legal reasons so i have provided a link for the video below;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6EQAOmJrbw

First 30 seconds analyzed;
The first few seconds of the video show a few establishing shots of the band playing in a school auditorium, which matches with the song title and the meaning of the song. To fit into this theme there are cuts of cheerleaders dancing in the background and they use a free handed camera for the majority of the scene to create a scene of realism. There are various close ups used on the singer during the opening and of the instruments playing as they come into the song.

The lyrics are as follows;
They're gonna clean up your looks
With all the lies in the books
To make a citizen out of you
Because they sleep with a gun
And keep an eye on you, son
So they can watch all the things you do

Because the drugs never work
They're gonna give you a smirk
'Cause they got methods of keeping you clean
They're gonna rip up your heads,
Your aspirations to shreds
Another cog in the murder machine

They said all teenagers scare the living shit out of me
They could care less as long as someone'll bleed
So darken your clothes or strike a violent pose
Maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me

The boys and girls in the clique
The awful names that they stick
You're never gonna fit in much, kid
But if you're troubled and hurt
What you got under your shirt
Will make them pay for the things that they did

They said all teenagers scare the living shit out of me
They could care less as long as someone'll bleed
So darken your clothes or strike a violent pose
Maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me

Ohhh yeah!

They said all teenagers scare the living shit out of me
They could care less as long as someone'll bleed
So darken your clothes or strike a violent pose
Maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me

All together now!

Teenagers scare the living shit out of me
They could care less as long as someone'll bleed
So darken your clothes or strike a violent pose
Maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me
[x2]

The lyrics talk about conformity in the common social media. They talk about from a outside perspective how the modern say 90's child is the worst one yet, because they have been popularized by hoodies and gang warfare, they automatically assume that every teenager is like that and all they want to do is hurt people.The verses themselves talk about how a kid might be bullied into violence from peer members.

Album poster;

The album poster is unique and features a nuclear explosion in the background. Maybe this is just a message that the music will blow your mind in a way. This however creates a nice backdrop for the MCR text which is colored black against the white explosion. The name of the song is also pasted in large capital letters across the poster in a brighter white, this is to grap the readers attention.

Album cover;

The album cover is a complete contrast to the poster. It features a man and woman illustrated on the front. The band title is displayed in a white font which is a clear contrast than the image painted. The cover itself seems to follow the same painting style as previous covers.

Everything is alright - Motion city Soundtrack Research

Music Video Link has had the impeding code withheld for legal reasons so i have provided a link for the video below;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SY-c-_sZ8LI

First 30 seconds analyised;
The first couple seconds of the video consist of a slow pan of a doctors waiting room, init are the usual sterotypes such as a child, a middleaged man, a concered mother, a caring nurse and the lead singer. As the song is being sung it pans other the various people in the waiting room miming the words until it gets to the lead singer of the band. A few fast cuts showing the actual band playing the aggresive music in a small confinded space are added in to mix up the tone of the video.

The lyrics are;
Tell me that you're alright,
Yeah everything is alright.
Oh please tell me that you're alright,
Yeah everything is alright.

Give me a reason to end this discussion,
To break with tradition.
To fold and divide.

Cause I hate the ocean, theme parks and airplanes,
Talking with strangers, waiting in line..
I'm through with these pills that make me sit still.
"Are you feeling fine?"
Yes, I feel just fine.

Tell me that you're alright,
Yeah everything is alright.
Oh please tell me that you're alright,
Yeah everything is alright.

I'm sick of the things I do when I'm nervous
Like cleaning the oven or checking my tires
Or counting the number of tiles in the ceiling..
Head for the hills, the kitchen's on fire!

I used to rely on self-medication,
I guess I still do that from time to time.
But I'm getting better at fighting the future,
"Someday you'll be fine.."
Yes, I'll be just fine.

Tell me that you're alright,
Yeah everything is alright.
Oh please tell me that you're alright,
Yeah everything is alright.

Give me a reason (I don't believe a word)
To end this discussion (of anything I've heard)
To break with tradition (they tell me that it's not so hard)
To fold and divide (it's not so hard)
So let's not get carried (away with everything)
Away with the process (from here to in-between)
of elimination (the long goodbye)
I don't want to waste your time.

Tell me that you're alright,
Yeah everything is alright.
Oh please tell me that you're alright,
Yeah everything is alright.

(Alright)
Tell me that you're alright, (Hi, everything's great)
Yeah everything is alright. (Everything's fine)
Oh please tell me that you're alright, (Hi, everything's great)
Yeah everything is alright.
(Everything's fine) [x4]

The songs is that of a bloke who is having a metal breakdown constantly asked if he is feeling fine. The lyrics in the chorus suggest that he is infact not suffering any physiological problems he just dislikes a lot of things.

Album Poster;
There was no poster for this album because of its limited release.

Album cover;

This album cover is unique it its pictures and colour scheme, The colour scheme that is dominate in the album cover is a blue/pink mix. It features a stark white text colour contrast agianst the background theme which emphises the bands name. It also features a man wispering into the womans ear, the woman is blended into the background colour theme expect for her face and the black is wearing a black contrast making him stand out. Perhaps stating that this music will try to stop you being such a conformist.

Chelsea Dagger - The Fratellis Research

Music Video Link has had the impeding code withheld for legal reasons so i have provided a link for the video below;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBqsVnvfn1k

First 30 Seconds analised;
The start of the video features a girl walking towards a house and then procedding to push a doorbell, this girl as you only see her feet is a speculation and ties in with the transexual theme that the song has. Soon as the doorbell rings the song starts and a blacked stage is then lit up with a spotlight on the drummer as he starts playing, when the bass comes into the intro a spotlight then shows him and it finally does the same for the gutairist/lead. It features close ups on each member as they are introduced and are shown to be wearing a 1940's styled theme.

Song Lyrics;
Well you must be a girl with shoes like that
she said you know me well
I seen you and little steven and Joanna
Round the back of my hotel oh yeah

Someone said you was asking after me
But I know you best as a blagger
I said tell me your name is it sweet?
She said my boy it's dagger oh yeah

I was good she was hot
Stealin' everything she got
I was bold she was over the worst of it
Gave me gear thank you dear bring yer sister over here
Let her dance with me just for the hell of it

Well you must be a boy with bones like that
She said you got me wrong
I would've sold them to you
If I could've just have kept the last of my clothes on
Call me up take me down with you
When you go I could be your regular belle
And I'll dance for little steven and Joanna
Round the back of my hotel oh yeah

I was good she was hot
Stealin everything she got
I was bold she was over the worst of it
Gave me gear thank you dear bring yer sister over here
Let her dance with me just for the hell of it

Chelsea Chelsea I believe that when your dancing
Slowly sucking your sleeve
That all the boys get lonely after you leave
And it's one for the Dagger and another for the one you believe

Chelsea Chelsea I believe that when your dancing
Slowly sucking your sleeve
That all the boys get lonely after you leave
And it's one for the Dagger and another for the one you believe

The lyrics in this song suggest that he is singing his questions to a transsexual, at first he thinks she is a girl but then he later discovers shes a man before he sleeps with her. The original of the name Chelsea dagger is never fully explained in the song expect for her name, this could lead to many interpretations of it.

Album poster;

The album poster shows a illustrated woman on her back in a provocative position. It draws on the video theme of a 1940's inspired video, as the woman is wearing the app orate attire for that time era. The colour contrast between the album background and the font are designed to help catch the readers eye after the initial picture of a woman draws people in.

Album cover;

The album cover also follows the same theme as the majority of the Fratellis videos. The girls that are illustrated on the front cover are from the video "Flathead" The front cover itself is also a contrast each girl has a differnt coloured dress and hairstyle/hair colour to distinguish them apart. This is done to draw the publics attension.

Brainstorm - Artic Monkeys Research

Music Video Link has had the impeding code withheld for legal reasons so i have provided a link for the video below;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30w8DyEJ__0

First 30 seconds analyzed;
The start of the video shows the band in a establishing shot and they appear to be a disused warehouse, the lights are only shown on the back so that they stand apart from the background. To fit with the tempo of the shot various amounts of fast shots and cuts are used of the band playing there instruments. A little while into the song small pictures are flashed up against the screen such as a pixelated image, and a 1940's video of a man talking. There are also pictures of women dancing pasted into the various sections.

The lyrics are;
Brian
Top marks for not trying
So kind of you to bless us with your effortlessness
We'd wait for and so trained and comforted

And I wonder
Are you putting us under
'Cos we can't take our eyes off the t-shirt
And ties combination

Well see ya later Innovator!

Some want to kiss some want to kick you
There's not a net you couldn't slip through
Or at least that’s the impression I get
'Cos you’re smooth and you’re wet
And she’s not aware yet, but she’s yours

She'll be sayin' "Use me"
Show me the Jacuzzi
I imagine that it's there on a plate
you're our rendezvous rate
Means you'll never be frightened

To make em wait for a while
I doubt it's your style
Not to get what you set
Out to acquire
The eyes are on fire
You are the un-forcasted storm

(Brian)
Calm, Collected and Commanding
(Top marks for not trying)
You hit the other story standing
With your renditions and jokes
I bet there's hundreds of blokes
That have wept 'cos you've stolen their...

Thunder
Are you putting us under
'Cos we can't take our eyes of your t-shirt
and ties combination
Well see ya later

The song lyrics itself are a description of a man the band know. He is claimed to be hated by the men but loved by the women. Because he would often use underhanded tactics to gain the woman attension. He is also claimed to not care who he seduces such as the line "I bet there's hundreds of blokes, That have wept 'cos you've stolen their..."

Album poster;

The album cover shows a stark contrast in colour tones. The black background with the white band description and the yellow text for the song title. The font picked as well is a standard graphitti text. This is done because it shows a link to the city indie that has been given rise to in the past couple of years. There are problems however because less familiar people could read the writing weather this is the bands intentions or not is not known.

Album cover;

The album cover shows a row of terrist houses with the lights on just one of the houses. The colour contrast is bleak and dark with the exceptions being the light and font title. The yellow text in the corner is the band name and title of album it is shown in the blank sky. Inside the house with the lights on you can clearly see the wallpaper which is multicolored and psychedelic. This could be a metaphor for the album coming from a normal area but is yet unlike you have seen for years.

Best of you - Foo Fighters Research

Music Video Link has had the impeding code withheld for legal reasons so i have provided a link for the video below;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbIXY4eF8ZE

First 30 seconds analised;
The start of the song shows the lead singer (David Ghrol) singing into the microphone, it uses a extreme close up as you can only see his mouth for the first 15seconds, after each sentance he retracts his face to show the white background. The vocals are slowly increased as the song reaches it first chours. When the camera pulls out it shows the band playing in a open desert, the majority of these shots are fast cuts used to keep the song theme continutng. The video also contains various images that flash up of the world, in particular destruction (tide running toward the camera) love (woman in her bed) and growth (flower blooming) these all tie into the song lyrics.

The song lyrics are as follows;
I've got another confession to make
I'm your fool
Everyone's got their chains to break
Holdin' you

Were you born to resist or be abused?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?

Are you gone and onto someone new?
I needed somewhere to hang my head
Without your noose
You gave me something that I didn't have
But had no use
I was too weak to give in
Too strong to lose
My heart is under arrest again
But I break loose
My head is giving me life or death
But I can't choose
I swear I'll never give in
I refuse

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
You trust, you must
Confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Oh...

Oh...Oh...Oh...Oh...

Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
The life, the love
You die to heal
The hope that starts
The broken hearts
You trust, you must
Confess

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?

I've got another confession my friend
I'm no fool
I'm getting tired of starting again
Somewhere new

Were you born to resist or be abused?
I swear I'll never give in
I refuse

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
You trust, you must
Confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Oh...

The lyrics them self are hard to interperate, but i think that they are telling a story. Of someone who has been ether emotionally or physically battered in a relationship, leaving the one who did this to them and how they are trying to cope. This would bring the music videos short clips such as the destruction shown could symbolize the destruction of your confidence after a breakup and the growth shown shortly after each shot is how life continues and how you grow as a character because of it. The main point of the song is how you cant let people beat you into submission during a relationship.

Album Poster;

This poster shows a stark contrast in colours, the black and gold help to provide a eye catching display. The bold use of the lines which point towards the center of the image also help to gather the eyes towards the middle of the poster. The title of the album and band are clearly displayed in a contrast ink to help gain visablity and then a critics score has been posted underneath.

Album cover;

The album cover is a stark contrast to the poster, a different use of contrast is used in this one as the poster contains a black/gold mix, this one contains a white/gold mix. It displays the same information as the poster and even includes the same banner in which the title of the band and album name reside. the only difference is the fact that a long robe has been placed behind the album and a flower motif situated above.

Short list

Today i composed a shortlist of possible songs to feature my music video about;

Everything is Alright - Motion City Soundtrack
Best of You - Foo Fighters
Brianstorm - Arctic Monkeys
Teenagers - (MCR) My Chemical Romance
Chelsea Dagger - The frateills

Because of the wide variety of tempo and song genres it makes it hard to pick, but i have decided that i shall use a mix of animation and normal filming to create the video. I will begin research on each of the songs so i can finally pick my preferred one.

Nickleback

The album cover for Nickleback's Dark horse is unusual. It fits in perfectly with the albums name because the main decorate for the belt buckle is a horse shoe which are commonly known to be lucky which could be a indication about the album. Also the colour scheme features a range of dark colours from blues to purples to blacks, sticking with a gothy/emo fell. Inside the belt buckle are the initals "NB" which are the bands intials realting back to the theme.

Silver side up, Is one of nickelbacks older albums, AS the name suggests it has a dark and gritty theme which is natural to the bands grunge metal music. The album cover itself features a dark blend of tones with a eye crying silver tears which are a tie in with the title of the album. The contrast in colours help to convey the emotions that the bands songs are trying to get you to experiance.

Kings of Leon

The album cover for the latest Kings of Leon album is unique. It has snippets from the band members mug shots arranged into one complete picture. Whist a bald eagle is also brushed into certain places. This could be done for many reasons to simulate that the band all put together "Are Kings of Leon" and that the bald eagle could mean that they are like proud to be American and unique.

Fall out boy

The Album cover for the latest fall out boy song is usual and original, the title Folie a Deux is french for "a madness shared by two", which plays into the album cover. The album cover being two people. A bear being given a piggy back ride by a bloke in a bear costume. Which could be a metaphor for meaning even if someone goes along with your ideas u don't know what there actually like.

This is fall out boys previous album cover titled, Infinity on high, the album cover follows a contrast to the previous one, because there is a blue dominate theme that surrounds this one as apposite to the red in the newer album cover. There is a theme of a child's bedroom as well as shown by the cot in the corner and the winged sheep. As most of fall out boys album covers they hold a deeper meaning then which is originally shown. The one could either relate to soothing songs displayed by the bedroom. Or it could link to the common myth about the bogyman in the closest, the closet is left open stating it could contain a contrast to the previous claim.

This is the earliest mainstream album cover for fall out boy, It is a very unusal one because it contains some stark and deeper meanings, I personally think it is a slur on the common media. The band played punk music durng this album release and punk is known to try to fight conformity in the general population. It shows a group of people greyed out that all look the same, watching a van and a bus stuck in the snow, perhaps stating that the general population will watch anything that is shown to them, in particular the personal distress of people.

Sum 41

The album cover shows a fleet of planes dropping TV's and a nation of people surrounding beneath to claim the TV's. It shows how society depends on technology and will not pass up a free offer. The colours scheme used also plays on a popular contrast, In which the famous expersion "red and green should never be seen" this contrast in colour helps to draw the market towards the album rather effectivly.

The album cover shows a presumably zombie pointing at a hole in his head as if to say the album cover. The text and picture of the stereotypical woman both look like they belong to a 50’s horror movie. The colour scheme in this album relates to the previous one, perpahs creating a link between the band and that green and red are tha bands colours.
